Read more – enjoy more!
Read more – enjoy more!2008 is the National Year of Reading and Blackpool Libraries are encouraging residents to get involved, read more and use the town’s libraries!

A series of events are planned throughout the year and festivities kicked off with a giant children’s pirate party at Central Library.

Events, organised by the libraries and arts’ teams in the town, will be held throughout 2008, including visits from nationally acclaimed authors, story-telling, healthy activities, performances, school involvement and family fun. Renowned poet John Siddique, who took part in last year’s Wordpool celebrations in the resort, will also be in residence in Blackpool from June until October and will be writing a poem about the town, with help from those who live here.

Wordpool 2008 is also set to return for a second year in October and will be a celebration of reading and literature featuring wacky events including a giant inflatable whale in Stanley Park!
Keep an eye out for more events here on our website and at your local library.

Borrowing books is completely free, new stock is added every week and now you don’t need to bring along proof of ID to borrow books – just provide your name and address.

Regular events are held at all libraries including :story times for young children; activities during the school holidays for different age groups and reading groups for adults / children meet regularly at some libraries.
Please ring or call in at your local library to find out the times and dates of events.

There is even an "At Home" service for those people who can no longer leave their homes to visit the library and who have no - one to collect books for them.
