The Council is on a mission to clean up the town
The Council is on a mission to clean up the town The Blackpool Is Getting Clean and Tidy (BIG CAT) Challenge is designed to make the town cleaner and greener than ever before. From planting trees and flowers to tackling grot spots and de-cluttering pavements the whole town is about to undergo a huge spring clean.

Community groups, school children, residents associations and other local organisations will all be invited to join in the challenge and help make their neighbourhoods green and clean.

Cllr Ian Fowler, Cabinet Member for Business Services, said: “We really want local residents to get behind this campaign. There will be lots of events where people can be involved from litter picks to clean up the town to planting new bulbs to green up areas.

“We get told time and time again by residents that they want Blackpool to be cleaner and we have listened to what they want. We are committed to making Blackpool a pleasant and greener place to live, as well as visit.

“However we need the help of local people. Every day the Council clears up graffiti, dumped waste, abandoned vehicles and it’s about time the small minority of people who commit these crimes took responsibility for their own actions and started to act in a more environmentally friendly way.”

Dog wardens, highways enforcements officers and the Neighbourhood Environmental Action Team (NEAT) will be out in force clamping down on the issues that the Council knows affects the quality of life of residents such as dog fouling and fly tipping.

A dedicated webpage will soon be set up for residents to report issues they want to see tackled.
