Ancestry

Blackpool Library Service provides free access to the family history online resource, Ancestry, through the library computers.

Generally people need to physically come into the libraries to access the service due to the terms of licensing. However, since the coronavirus pandemic, we have been working with Ancestry and can now offer this access from home for library members.

Instructions for accessing Ancestry

Your library membership provides you with free access to the Ancestry library edition of the website, and you will be able to undertake the same kind of searches, etc. that you would normally be able to do within a library setting.

If you are already a member of the library service, then your library card number (24114…)  and PIN will get you on your way. Simply log in to your library account, through the following link, and then follow the embedded Ancestry link: log in to your library account.

If you are not currently a library member, then you will need to join the service. Library membership/access to this service is completely free and easy to sign up to online. If you require any assistance with this, please email: Central.library@blackpool.gov.uk. Once you have your library card number and PIN you will be able to login to your library account and access Ancestry via the links provided.

You are able to use Ancestry.co.uk as part of you Blackpool library membership.

To access the link please log in to your library account

Please note: When you close your Ancestry session you should be automatically logged out of your library account, but please do check that you are logged off from your library account after you have finished using Ancestry.
