The building was renovated in 2004 but kept the facia wall from the original Solarium built in 1941, it was described as a 'winter garden and sun lounge' when built and was then repurposed as a cafe in the 1960s.

Once the renovation had been completed The Solaris Centre was one of Blackpools first Eco Buildings thanks to the inclusion of 60 photo voltaic panels, (Containing 6870 PV cells) two 6kW Proven wind turbines and two solar thermal panels feeding into a gas powered CHP unit that provides hot water and electricity to the building.
