There are some designated permanent sites across Blackpool for travellers to use. These sites have planning permission and are situated at: 

  • Whalley Lane
  • Jubilee Lane - families only
  • Fishers Lane - families only
Licences to stay on these sites are granted by Blackpool Council's planning department. Enforcement of these licences is carried out by our environmental services team on an ongoing basis.

Plot vacancies on council managed traveller sites

There are 26 plots available on the site but, unfortunately, very few vacancies arise as most residents are long-standing. The manager who looks after the day-to-day management of the Chapel Road Site is Mr A Taylor and he lives on the site in plot 1.

Management of the site including the filling of vacancies and any evictions are dealt with by the Mereside estate office. All enquiries should be directed to the office at:

Illegal occupation of land

Blackpool Council has secured in the High Court an injunction under Section 1 Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 201 and Section 187b of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. The parcels of land protected by illegal encampments are;

  • Lawsons Road Playing Fields
  • Common Edge Playing Field
  • Mereside Park/Sandhams Green, Clifton Road
  • Layton Recreation Ground, Collingwood Avenue
  • South Shore Car Park, Yeadon Way
  • Land adjacent to Clifton Christian Centre, Langdale Road, Blackpool
