Blackpool Local Plan 2001-2016
The Blackpool local plan (adopted in 2006) sets out the council's existing policies and proposals for the way in which land, buildings and infrastructure should be developed.
These include:
- Sites proposed to be developed for housing, business/industry, retail, leisure and other purposes
- Criteria against which proposals for the development and change of use of premises in other locations will be assessed
- Policies on the design and layout of development proposals
- The designation of areas to be protected from development
- Proposals for the improvement of public areas and local infrastructure and facilities
This plan, for many years, has formed the basis against which applications for planning permission are considered. However, a number of policies have been superseded by the Local Plan Part 1: Core Strategy (adopted January 2016). I
t will eventually be replaced in full once the Local Plan Part 2: Site Allocations and Development Management Policies Document has been adopted (currently under preparation). A number of policies in the 2006 Local Plan will continue to be 'saved' until the Local Plan Part 2 is adopted.
