Adult Placement (Shared Lives)

Adult Placement (Shared Lives) The Adult Placement Service provides care, support and accommodation for people who need help due to age or disability. Specially recruited carers provide this service within their own home. Workers attached to the Adult Placement Service arrange the placements and provide back-up support and guidance.

The service is tailored to suit the needs and circumstances of those who need help due to age or disability. Great attention is paid to making sure that you and others can get along well together and that there is plenty of assistance available to make the placement successful.

You are welcomed as ‘one of the family’ and this often results in the development of satisfying relationships between the carer and the person placed with them.

Adult Placement Carers are recruited to reflect the make up of the local community and include couples, individuals and families of all ages. There is no typical carer and you are assessed according to your own personal circumstances.

Carers are registered under the terms of the National Care Standards Act 2000, and receive an allowance and expenses for the care they provide.

What are the different types of Adult Placement?

  • Short Breaks - These are for a specified period of time, ranging from an overnight stay, to a longer period of time with Carers.
  • Sessional Breaks - This is a more flexible arrangement either in the daytime or the evening, to do a specific activity with the support of a Carer.  It does not include overnight stays.
  • Longer Term Care - This is where the person moves in on a longer-term basis and lives as a member of the Carer's family.
  • Daytime Short Break Service - This is where the person spends time with the Carer on a regular basis on one or more days in the week.
If you would like further information about the Adult Placement Service, please contact the Adult Placement Officer.
