Air Quality Pollution Control

Each Council has a responsibility, under the Environment Act 1995 and associated regulations to periodically review and assess its air quality to make sure that it meets required standards.

The standards relate to the concentration of a defined range of pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and benzene etc.

Continuous monitoring at specific sites is undertaken and diffusion tubes are located across the town to measure specific pollutants mainly caused by traffic.

Additionally, Blackpool Council is part of RADMIL which is an independent organisation made up of Lancashire local authorities that measures radioactivity and offers advice to members of the public.
