Area Panels and Area Forums

New Area Panels and Forums – A Bigger Voice for the Community.

At the Council meeting on Wednesday 18th January, a number of key changes were approved following a wide-ranging review of the way its Area Panels and Forums operate. It’s all part of the Council’s drive to ensure services are responsive to local needs and give a greater say to the local community.

The recommendations included:
  • The redrawing of some Area Panel/ Forum boundaries to align them more closely with the Lancashire Constabulary PACT areas and the neighbourhood service areas.
  • That the Chairman and Vice Chairman of each Area Forum and consequently the Area Panel, would be Community Representatives, chosen by vote at local Area Forum meetings.
  • That one of the Community Representatives on each Panel will be a Young People’s Representative who lives in the Forum area or is studying locally.
  • That the Area Forum would vote on any funding applications, with the Area Panel, which will monitor spending, making urgent decisions if needed between Forum meetings.
As part of the review of the Area Panels/ Forums, we will be seeking 42 Community Representatives to represent the local community for a two-year term of office commencing in May 2012. The Chairman and Vice Chairman of each Area Panel/ Forum will receive an annual allowance of £514 and £203 respectively, all other Community Representatives will receive an allowance of £75 per annum. Appointment will be by application form and a secret ballot to be held at the April/May cycle of meetings.

Should you wish to nominate yourself for one of the positions of Community Representative on any of the seven Area Panel/ Forums, please contact Democratic Services on 477034 who will arrange for a nomination form and role description to be sent to you. Alternatively, you can download copies using the following links, Nomination Form and Role Descriptions. The deadline for nominations will be 4.00pm on Friday 30th March
