Arts Awards for Young People

Arts Awards for Young People Arts Award for Young People/Blackpool BLAZE Programme

We have lots of exciting news for you about our 2011 Arts Award Programme…

Our very own home-grown Art Hero ‘Little Boots’ has agreed to be our Blackpool Arts Award Ambassador and is taking a keen interest in this year’s projects and events. We are also pleased to announce that this year’s Arts Award Programme will be delivered in partnership with the BLAZE Project. BLAZE is an ambitious youth-led culture and sport programme for Lancashire, Blackpool and the Fylde Coast that is part of WE PLAY, the North West cultural legacy programme for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This means that we will be able to offer young people from Blackpool more opportunities to attend arts events across Lancashire as well as a very exciting programme of artist led activities in their home town. They will also be part of a growing network of young people who are ‘making things happen’ for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad’.

Key dates for this year’s summer activity programme are Mon 25th -29th July and Mon 1st – 5th Aug 2011, when we will be taking part in an exciting range of Artist led creative activity.

The summer scheme will have key strands of visual arts/fashion/photography/filmmaking/music and festival. The aim of the two weeks is to have fun exploring new artforms, meet new people, create artwork that can be showcased and plan a young people’s festival that will be a mix of art, fashion, music and sport.

And our Festival Day is planned for 1st September 2011 at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.

We are currently recruiting for our 2011 Bronze Arts Award/BLAZE programme. If you would like to be involved this year please contact: Kerry Hunt at the Grundy Art Gallery, tel: 01253 478170 email: kerry.hunt@blackpool.gov.uk

The Arts Award/Blaze Blackpool programme is managed by Blackpool Council’s Arts Service.
