The Grundy Art Gallery opened in 1911. The following year a purchase fund for new artworks was set up to build upon the thirty-three artworks originally bequeathed by brothers John and Cuthbert Grundy.
The collection now contains close to two thousand objects, including Victorian oils and watercolours, modern British paintings, contemporary prints, jewellery and video, oriental ivories, ceramics, and photographs of historic Blackpool. Exhibitions featuring works from the gallery's collection are organised periodically throughout the year.
The gallery continually seeks to strengthen its collections and welcomes enquiries from anyone considering bequeathing or donating works to its collection. Please contact the gallery should you be considering donating artwork to the collection:
New artworks are collected in accordance with the gallery's acquisition policy; Grundy will not acquire, whether by purchase, gift, bequest or exchange, any work of art unless resources exist to store, conserve, catalogue and utilise it either for display, education or other interpretative purposes.
The gallery does not endorse the policy of passive collecting, and will not automatically accept unsolicited objects for its collection.
