What happens if the Rateable Value of my property changes?
If the Valuation Officer changes your rateable value, you will be told about his decision in writing. We will recalculate your bill and work out the new amount you have to pay.
If your bill is subject to Transitional arrangements, you may find that a change in your rateable value does not change the amount you have to pay.
If you submit a request to the Valuation Office Agency for your rateable value to be changed, you must carry on paying the instalments shown on your bill until a new rateable value is agreed. Any money you have overpaid will be refunded to you. You will receive interest on the money, at a rate set by the government, providing we have not obtained a Liability Order from the Magistrates Court for non-payment of business rates.
You can get more information from the
Valuation Office Agency or the
Department for Communities and Local Government websites about this.
