Extended Services

Extended services is the term used to describe the services provided in and around schools, including Children's Centres and services provided outside the school day, such as parenting support, access to specialists, and before and after school clubs.

Schools and Children's Centres work together providing extended services, to improve outcomes for children, young people and families. Some services are provided directly and others are provided by signposting.

Services include:

Children's Centres Schools
Childcare integrated with early education Child care for children of primary school age (before and after school and in school holidays) A ‘Safe Place to Be’ for young people of secondary school age, from 8.00am-6.00pm and more flexibly in holiday times
Family support and parental outreach Parenting support
Child and Family Health Services Swift and easy access to targeted and specialist services
Links with lifelong learning and Jobcentre Plus A varied menu of activities, including study support and play
Strengthening communities Community access
 
Extended Services are for children and young people 0-19 years, their families and the wider community.

Children’s centres provide services which focus on children aged 0-13 years and their families.
