Choosing a Contractor

When engaging the services of a tradesman in your home, it is crucial to find the right individual / company for the job, preferably one who is a member of a trade body, who is able to supply references, and has a legitimate long-standing business. We never advise that you agree to any work as a result of a doorstep call, without ensuring you have researched the company and sought advice from Trading Standards.

You should also ensure you get all the necessary paperwork before commencement of work. This should include a contract with the following details:
  • Full company details including landline and postal address
  • Price paid or instalment details (including VAT) 
  • Detailed schedule of works - what is to be done and by when.
  • Details of your 7-day cooling off rights, including cancellation form.
