Arranging Your Ceremony at Blackpool Town Hall

Arranging Your Ceremony at Blackpool Town Hall You should first of all look at the following information to ensure you are legally free to marry or form a civil partnership in this country.
  1. Thinking about the Town Hall for your Civil Ceremony?
Contact the Town Hall Ceremonies co-ordinator, based at The Register Office, who can arrange an appointment for you to view the Town Hall. You will be able to ask any questions you may have regarding a wedding or civil partnership ceremony and you can informally discuss individual plans and specific requirements for your special day, without obligation.

There are two rooms within the Town Hall to choose from for your ceremony; the Council Chamber and Committee Room A. Click Publications on the right for photographs of both rooms.

  2. Contact the Register Office to check availability and make a provisional booking.
You can book your ceremony exactly one year to the day in advance. Your provisional booking will become permanent once both parties have given their Legal Notice.

  3. Make an appointment to give Notice.
You must give notice at the Register Office located in the district where you reside for a fee. Your Legal Notice will be valid for the Town Hall only. If you change your mind on the venue, you will have to Give Notice again and pay the fee again. For a list Arranging Your Ceremony at Blackpool Town Hallof fees, including Giving Notice and venue hire at the Town Hall, click on Register Office Fees under Publications on the right.

  4. Decide on the format of your ceremony.
After you have given Notice, you will be given a civil ceremony information pack (either in person or by post, depending on where you gave notice). The pack contains a choice of the legally binding phrases that must be spoken by both parties and a choice of suggested formats for the ceremony.

Remember, you can tailor the ceremony to suit you. You can incorporate readings, poems and your own choice of music on CD. If you decide to include poems or readings in your ceremony, you should let the Superintendent Registrar see them beforehand as you cannot include any religious content (such as hymns or readings and poems with a religious slant). Civil ceremonies by their very nature must remain non-religious.

  5. Collect your ‘Blues’ (if applicable).
If you both gave Notice at Blackpool Register Office because you both live in Blackpool, you need do nothing else. The legal preliminaries (often referred to by our staff as 'Blues') will be issued and kept at the Register Office until your wedding or civil partnership day.

If you both or one of you resides outside of Blackpool, when you gave Notice at your local Register Office, you will have been advised of the date that your 'Blues' can be issued. This is usually 16 days after your Notice appointment. Ensure you deliver them to us at Blackpool Register Office and we will keep them safe until your wedding or civil partnership day.

  6. Discuss the format of and pay for your ceremony.
Book an appointment with the Superintendent Registrar at Blackpool Register Office at least one month before your ceremony to discuss your requirements. This is your opportunity to discuss how you would like the ceremony to unfold. You should bring your chosen wording from the civil ceremony information pack, any readings or poems, your choice of music (preferably on CD) and the ceremony fee.  For a list of fees, click on Register Office Fees under Publications on the right. You will be charged for a Town Hall Ceremony (on your chosen day of the week) plus the cost of a Certified Copy (Marriage or Civil Partnership) Certificate at time of registration. You can purchase extra certificates if required.
