What is a Liability Order in relation to Council Tax and what happens next?
When a Liability Order has been granted by the Magistrates Court it gives us extra powers to get payment of the money due to us. We can:
- instruct bailiffs to act on our behalf;
- start bankruptcy proceedings;
- attach your earnings;
- deduct money from your income support, jobseeker's allowance or employment support allowance;
- ask you about your personal circumstances
The Council prosecutes people who do not comply with the Liability Order granted by the Court.
