Why have I got an Attachment of Earnings relating to my Council Tax?
Once a case has gone through the Magistrates Court, an order is granted. This order allows us to take certain methods to recover the money due, one of which is an Attachment of Earnings.
If a suitable payment arrangement has not been made with the Council or the outstanding balance has not been paid in full, it is likely that when your employer details are known, an Attachment of Earnings Order will be implemented. If it is necessary for us to set up an Attachment of Earnings with your Employer, a set amount will be deducted from your wage.
Please use this link to our guide giving an estimate of the amounts deducted. You should speak to your Employer about the exact amount.
You are obliged to give your employment details to us when asked. The Council prosecutes people who do not comply with the Liability Order granted by the Court.
