Why have I received a Summons relating to my Council Tax?
A bill was sent to you showing when to pay your monthly instalments. Other notices have been sent reminding you what needs to be paid. As you have still not paid the required amounts, a summons has now been sent to you.
We will be asking the Magistrates to grant a Liability Order on the date shown on your summons which will allow us to take more action if you still do not pay. If you pay the amount shown on your summons in full before the date of the hearing, no further action will be taken. If you cannot pay the full amount due before the hearing, you should contact the Customer First Centre or Recovery Section who will be able to give you further advice.
After the hearing, we will write to you again and let you know what has happened. Please do not ignore the summons or any letters we send to you. If necessary, we will have to send an Enforcement Agent (Bailiff) to collect the amount owing on our behalf. Please make sure that you fill in your details on the 'Information Request' form which is sent to you after the court date. A form will be sent to each person named on the summons and all forms must be filled in and sent back to us even if a payment arrangement has already been made. It is a criminal offence not to do this.
