Do I qualify for a Council Tax reduction if I have moved but not sold my property yet?
If the property you have left is empty and unfurnished, you may be entitled to claim an exemption from payment for six months. An exemption means that there is no charge for that period. After six months, if your circumstances are the same, you will be liable to pay 50% of the charge on your property.
If the property you have left stays furnished, you will be able to claim 50% discount from the date you have left until you sell the property or it is occupied again.
While you are waiting for a decision about your discount request, you should carry on paying your monthly instalments when they are due.
