Do I qualify for a Council Tax reduction if my property is undergoing major structural repairs?
You may be able to claim an exemption from payment for up to 12 months, providing your property is in need of or undergoing major structural repairs and it is not occupied or furnished.
You will need to send us proof of the work you are having done such as a builder's schedule of works or a surveyors report. The length of time an exemption can be awarded for depends on the type of repairs needed to make the property habitable. We will need to inspect your property during this time. We can only award an exemption for a maximum of 12 months in these cases, with a 50% charge being made after this time.
If your property is not occupied or furnished after the 12-month period, a 50% charge will be made.
Please supply your contact details as we will need to arrange an inspection of your property to help us decide what reductions you are entitled to. While you are waiting for a decision about your request for a reduction, you should carry on paying your instalment payments on the due dates.
