Cycling is an ever increasing mode of transport. A great way to stay fit, reduce congestion and save on travel costs. Blackpool Council aims to make cycling as safe and easy as possible for all.
The Cycle Town status has left a legacy of investment in cycling facilities:
- Hire bike scheme
- Stanley Park BMX track
- Palatine race circuit
- Marton pump track
- ‘Explorer Routes’ helping cyclists travel from the Promenade to Stanley Park and Zoo.
It's now legal to cycle the full length of the Promenade between Starr Gate and Fleetwood. Enjoy the beautiful views over the Coast taking in the South Lakes and Anglesey whilst at the same time riding past Blackpool's famous attractions including the Pleasure Beach, Tower and three piers.
Hire bike stations are located along the full stretch of Blackpool Promenade offering a fun and cheap way to explore the town. The hire bike scheme is closed for the WInter and due to reopen in Spring 2013.
Cycle parking is provided at various locations in the town centre, district shopping centres and leisure centres. The cycle facilities in Blackpool are shown on the new Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Cycle Map available at the tourist information centre and Customer First offices on Corporation Street.
Please cycle with care and courtesy for other road users. The Council provides adult cycle training courses that teach the necessary knowledge and techniques to cycle safely. They can be tailored to the rider's needs, be they a beginner or regular cyclist. One to one or group training is available. Email cycling@blackpool.gov.uk for further information and to book a place.
