Can my Local Councillor see my Personal Information?
There are three instances when a Councillor can obtain or use personal data:
- When Councillors are on certain committees, they have access to personal data in their official capacity as a committee member, for example the Housing Committee. This data can only be processed by the Councillor in their position as a committee member and for the purposes directed by the authority.
- Personal data about someone living in the Councillor's ward can be disclosed to the Councillor, but only when it is clear that the Councillor is acting on behalf of that person. Where possible and if necessary, Blackpool Council will seek written consent of that person.
- If a Councillor wishes to process personal data for political reasons, they must obtain written consent, or already have that person's data by way of political party membership information.
