Should I call one of the debt management companies for advice which advertise on the television or newspaper?
These are usually fee charging companies and won't deal with priority debts or provide you with impartial advice. Some will offer to set up a Debt Management Plan for you, but will charge an upfront and/or monthly fee to do so.
There are free alternatives so you shouldn't have to pay for professional, independent debt advice.
National Debtline, Citizens Advice Bureau, CCCS and Payplan all offer free, professional, independent, impartial debt advice (CCCS and Payplan offer Debt Mangement Plans at no charge and with no monthly fee's).
