What should I do if I receive a bailiffs notice?
Different bailiffs have differing powers depending on the debt they are collecting.
Don't ignore letters warning of court or bailiff action, the longer you delay in dealing with an issue, the more difficult it may be to resolve. Seek advice from an independent debt advice service as soon as possible.
Have you been contacted by a bailiff company?
Blackpool Council bailiff code of practice sets out operating requirements for Bailiff Companies acting on behalf of the council. A copy of the code of practice is available in the publications section (see the related information menu to the right of this page). If you feel bailiffs have acted outside, or have not complied with the published guidelines, a complaint should initially be made to the bailiff company involved. If the bailiff company are unable to resolve the complaint, please contact the
council tax department directly.
