Direct Payments

Direct Payments are payments given to you to buy services that Social Services has assessed that you need. You can only access Direct Payments if you currently have been assessed as needing a package of care.

They must be used to pay for care from someone you employ, or to pay a bill for care from a service provider (for example an agency or day centre).   You will be able to choose who will provide your care and when it is provided.

You must agree to manage your Direct Payments account and arrange your own services. You will be expected, with support, to arrange and control your own services whether they are from an agency or you employ a personal assistant. If you choose to become an employer you will have to follow employment law. You will have to keep records showing how you spent your money

Please Note:
  • You will have the flexibility to arrange your care to meet any of your assessed needs
  • You can receive Direct Payments while still receiving a part of your care from Social Services.
  • You may be asked to give feedback on your Direct Payments. We are always interested in people’s views as these can help us to develop the scheme.
  • You will have the support of the Direct Payments Team and a user support group to help you overcome any difficulties
Existing Users of Direct Payments say they:
  • Are satisfied with the improvements in their care and well being
  • Can control how their care is delivered and be involved in improving the standard of care
  • Are able to employ their own carers directly and build better working relationships
  • Can plan short breaks from caring for those they support
  • Have learnt new skills and become more involved in decision making
Please contact us if you are interested in this service.
