Diversity Learning Team

The Diversity Learning Team is dedicated to providing information, advice and guidance to schools, partners and other agencies. This will help create an ethos for learning and achievement in schools and ensure access to provision/service which is equitable and inclusive for all groups and individuals, including:
  • Children from black and minority ethnic groups (BME)
  • Children who have English as an additional language (EAL)
  • Children who are from the Gypsy, Roma and Travellers of Irish heritage communities
  • Children who are electively home educated (EHE)
The Team also supports Blackpool children who are in the care of the Local Authority by providing a Virtual School for Children Looked After. The Virtual School aims to raise educational attainment and promote better life chances for all children in the care of the authority.

The Team’s Education Inclusion Consultant is available to provide advice and guidance for you if your child is excluded from school or if behaviour and attendance is becoming an issue.

The Diversity Learning Team is committed to helping young people overcome the barriers that can sometimes make it hard for them to learn, grow and achieve.

Blackpool is about ‘Education for All’

For further advice and guidance on any of the areas above, please call 01253 476712

Legislation

All the work undertaken by the Diversity Learning Team is underpinned by Race Equality legislation, namely the Race Relations Amendment Act 2000. The duty to promote Race Equality applies to everyone. Where an authority has a small number of Black and Minority Ethnic Population, the law still applies. Everyone has a part to play in carrying out the following responsibilities within their day-to-day work:
  • eliminate unlawful racial discrimination
  • promote equal opportunities
  • encourage good race relations
