Do I need to register my dog?

In most cases there is no need to register your dog as dog licences no longer exist. You may want to have your dog micro chipped as this will greatly increase the likelihood of its return if it gets lost.

The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 introduced the need to license certain breeds of dog. The four breeds which have to be licensed under the Act are:

  • Tosa Fighting Dog
  • American Pit Bull Terrier
  • Brazilian Mastiff
  • Argentinian Mastiff
Registration of these breeds is done by the police not the Council.
