If you wish to report a stray or lost dog, you can contact our Dog Warden Service on the Customer First telephone number. To report outside of these hours you can call 01253 477600, the details will be taken from you and picked up by the dog Warden Service in the morning.
The Dog Warden Service is run by Animal Wardens
The Environmental Protection Act 1990 has made it very expensive to reclaim your dog if it has been caught straying. You may also be prosecuted for allowing your dog to stray. If it has no NAME AND ADDRESS on its collar, you could be prosecuted for that as well!
There is a local Blackpool Council bye-law which prohibits dogs on the beach between the three piers (North, Central and South) between the 1st May and 30th September each year.
Dogs are not allowed between the three piers during this period whether they are running free or are kept on a lead.
Stray dogs will :
- be killed in or cause traffic accidents
- frighten or seriously injure unsuspecting children
- spoil the environment tearing open refuse bags
- spread disease in areas where children play
- lead their owners into the Magistrates Court!
If your dog gets out by accident, there is no need to panic. Telephone the Dog Warden Service and describe the circumstances, what your dog looks like and where and when it was last seen. The Dog Wardens will do what they can to help find your dog for you. Remember you must keep your name and address on its collar.

Under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996, anyone letting a dog in their charge to foul any public access area is committing an offence and will be issued with a fixed penalty of £50. If this is not paid, you could face a fine of up to £1,000.
Make sure you pick up any dog mess straightaway. If you want to report someone who is allowing their dog to foul, please contact us. It will help if you can give us:
- your name and address
- the name and address of the offender if known
- where and when it happened
- a description of the dog
All calls are dealt with in confidence and your identity is never divulged to others.
Our Dog Welfare Officers can then carry out regular patrols of the area, in order to deter, and where necessary, prosecute the offending dog owner.
