What happens on donkey inspection day?
On inspection day the following activities take place:
- The vet inspects all the Donkeys;
- The animals are scanned for microchips and any new animals are micro-chipped. A record is kept showing the proprietor's name, the donkey's name and the microchip number;
- The draw is made for the pitches for the coming season. There are 15 stands along the beach and they rotate daily. Each day they move up one stand in a southerly direction. This means that they get to use all the stands over the season;
- For the draw 15 sealed envelopes with the numbers 1 to 15 in each envelope are used, after their donkeys have been inspected each proprietor takes one envelope for each stud they own;
- Once the inspection has been carried out satisfactorily, the owners pay the fee at the licensing office and the 12 month licence can be issued.
