Donkey Proprietors and Donkey Drivers Licences

Donkey Proprietors and Donkey Drivers Licences All Donkey Drivers are issued with an identification badge with a photograph of the driver upon it which must be renewed each year. Drivers are licensed for the safety and protection of the public, and to ensure proper management of the animals when being used for carrying passengers for hire on the seashore.

Donkey Proprietors' licences are renewed annually on 1st June. Prior to the licences being renewed the Council's veterinary surgeon and "The Donkey Sanctuary" inspect all the donkeys on a Friday (donkey day off) in May. The RSPCA is informed of the inspection day and local media often attend, and speak very positively about donkey welfare.
