What happens if my drain or private sewer is broken and requires repairing?
You should quickly arrange for the repairs to be undertaken by a reputable contractor. The cost of any repairs to a Private Sewer should be shared by the various householders which the sewer serves. It should be noted that before your contractor undertakes any works that are in the public highway, then they should contact the Council’s Street Scene team who will need to arrange for an ‘opening up order’ for the carriage way.
You may also want to contact your household insurers as your Buildings Insurance Policy may cover the cost of any required repairs - look under the "Accidental Damage to Services" clause in your Policy. Alternatively, there are a several policies commercially available for drainage systems, which are often offered by the water companies themselves.
