Driver Training

The majority of road traffic crashes on Blackpool's roads involve drivers. It is estimated that 95% of the collisions on the road are caused by human error and every attempt is being made to reduce this incidence of error to reduce death and injury on our roads.

Blackpool Council regularly runs driving courses to offer advice on safer driving. Road Safety is however Everyone’s Responsibility

Pre-drivers:  Test Drive Course

For pre-drivers aged 16 and over, Blackpool Council offers the Test Drive course - a one day course designed to give youngsters the opportunity to get behind the wheel and discover that good, safe driving involves much more than just learning how to control a car.

Test Drive is run in conjunction with Blackpool Driving School and is an excellent taster session for anyone considering taking lessons in the future.

We run several courses throughout the year at various locations, including Blackpool & the Fylde College.

No provisional licence is needed as students drive within private grounds with the aid of an experienced driving instructor.

For more details or dates of the next Test Drive course contact the Travel and Road Safety team by calling 01253 476182, by emailing roadsafety@blackpool.gov.uk or look out for details in the local press.

Newly Qualified Drivers:  Pass Plus Course

The Pass Plus scheme is excellent for newly qualified drivers.  It will provide an extra six hours driving practice in and out of town and on the motorway.
Completing the Pass Plus can also give you huge discounts on your insurance costs.

Ask your driving instructor or contact roadsafety@blackpool.gov.uk or visit the Pass Plus website at www.passplus.org.uk

Established Drivers - Refresher Drive Course

Established drivers can often feel that a few things have changed on the roads since they passed their test. It is easy to get ‘left behind’ or feel you are not up to scratch with regard to driving knowledge and skills.

Blackpool Council encourages established drivers to take a ‘refresher driver’ session to update their skills and knowledge.  Drivers can take an hour-long refresher drive with a qualified driving instructor in their own vehicle or in the driving instructors car if preferred.

The drive gives experienced drivers the opportunity to ask an expert for advice on specific junctions or road markings or get to grips with mini-roundabouts as well as a chance for a quick reminder of driving skills.

If you would like to take a refresher drive contact the Travel and Road Safety Office.
