Elections - Polling Stations

If you are registered to vote you will vote at a polling station at election time, unless you have chosen to vote by post or have appointed a proxy (someone to vote on your behalf).

Shortly before the election is held, you will receive a poll card that tells you where to find your local polling station.

How to vote at a polling station

At the polling station the clerk will check your name on the register and hand you a ballot paper.
The ballot paper will say how many candidates you may vote for and list them in alphabetical order. Take your ballot paper to a polling booth and put a cross in the box next to the name of the candidate(s) of your choice. Do not write anything else on the ballot paper or your vote may not be counted.

Once you have voted, fold the ballot paper and put it in the ballot box. Your vote is secret; you do not have to tell anyone who you have voted for.
