Employment and Training Initiatives

Employment and Training Initiatives Blackpool Council offers a wide range of initiatives to ensure that staff and teams have the opportunity to develop their skills and expertise.

A Workforce Development Plan is in place, which focuses on future requirements, both in terms of staffing and assisting the Council to meet its performance indicators and targets.

The Council also operates an INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL (IPA) SCHEME. This process is a way of cascading the objectives from the Corporate Performance Plan and Service/Business Plans, down to team and individual employee level. This helps staff to understand their own contribution to bringing about improvements to service delivery and discuss their individual training needs.

Training courses available include:

- Customer Care - Presentation Skills - Report Writing - Negotiating and Influencing Skills - A structured programme for managers - Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) - Coaching Scheme
- Health & Safety

The Council has also been in the forefront of a new Skills4Life project , by working in Partnership with Trade Unions to provide all employees with the opportunity to learn and develop. There are a number of Union Learning Representatives throughout the Council to support this project , led by a project co-ordinator. They are able to offer advice and guidance on lifelong learning opportunities up to degree level. The development of this project has received national acclaim.
Blackpool also encourages Continuous Professional development by allowing employees to carry out study through day release for professional qualifications.
