Equalities and Diversity

Equalities and Diversity Blackpool Council is committed to ensuring equality of access and opportunity for the population of Blackpool and to providing and improving quality services to all our community.

In providing and commissioning services for the local community, we aim to improve the quality of life of all residents and value and celebrate the richness of cultures, backgrounds and traditions of the town’s population.

Blackpool Council accepts that discrimination can be a major barrier to a fair and just society. We are guided by the reality that there are people who are prevented from taking part fully in the life of our community, for example, in the areas of employment, housing and education.

The reasons for their unfair treatment and exclusion may be related to their age, caring responsibilities, disability, ethnic background and skin colour, faith, gender or gender identity, health, language, social and economic background, or being lesbian, gay or bi-sexual. Blackpool Council recognises that discrimination can affect people in complex ways - we are committed to challenging all forms of inequalities.

The council and general tax system does not discriminate between citizens on the grounds of race, gender, creed or anything else. Neither should the services that are paid through them. The councils equality and diversity commitments lie at the heart of all our work – the efficient delivery of public services to all citizens. It’s a question of good business – not political correctness.

Blackpool Council's Equality and Diversity Unit is a resource that can offer help and advice to Council departments and voluntary and community organisations. The Unit works closely to ensure that Equality and Diversity issues are incorporated with all Council policies and procedures.

Blackpool Council and Blackpool Primary Care Trusts vision and commitment to ensuring equality of access and opportunities for the population of Blackpool are set out in Blackpool's Comprehensive Equality Policy ‘All Different, All Equal’ which can be found under Publications to the right of this page. The joint policy has been developed to highlight our shared values and demonstrate commitment to providing and improving quality services to all our community.
