Financial Assistance for Owner Occupiers

Blackpool Council is able to offer assistance with the cost of essential repairs where the homeowner is unable to finance the repairs themselves through an equity release loan scheme.

The qualifying criteria are as follows:
  • You must have lived in and owned the property for a minimum of 5 years (the council may waive this condition if the property is in a Reassurance Plus area)
  • The property must be your principle and only residence
  • You must be in receipt of a means tested benefit **(please see below for the list of qualifying benefits) or be on a low income (in this situation you will be asked to demonstrate why you cannot afford to fund the works yourself)
  • The work required must be essential to ensure your property meets the Decent Homes Standard
  • You must have buildings insurance in place at the time of application.
  • You must have equity in the property (If there is inadequate equity in the property we are able to offer limited grant assistance but this is at the discretion of the council)

  • Incapacity benefit
  • Working Tax credit
  • Child Tax credit
