What procedure is followed at the Crematorium on the day of the funeral?
The mourners normally gather at the Crematorium waiting room or close to the entrance of the Chapel a few minutes before the appointed time of the funeral service to wait for the arrival of the cortege.
When the principal mourners are ready to proceed, crematorium staff check that the correct coffin has been received and the coffin will normally be placed upon the catafalque and mourners will be directed to their seats.
During the service, at the moment of the committal of the body, curtains slowly close around the coffin. At the end of the service the mourners are led from the chapel and may inspect the floral tributes.
Services start either on the hour or half hour and should last no more than 25 minutes.
The remains of the cremation will normally be ready for collection the next day. The family or their Funeral Director can either collect the remains or they can be stored for a period of not more than one month at the Crematorium. The family can arrange either for an interment in a wall niche or the cremated remains placed in a burial plot or they can be strewn in the memorial Rose Garden with or without the family present.
