Energy-saving light bulbs

Energy-saving light bulbsEnergy saving light bulbs are compact fluorescent light bulbs and are classed as hazardous waste as they contain a small amount of mercury, therefore they should not be disposed of in the grey household bin.

The Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) located on Bristol Avenue has a ’fluo tube box’ for the disposal of these bulbs.

Incandescent (ordinary ‘filament’) light bulbs do not have any hazardous properties and can be disposed of in the grey bin but should be wrapped up in newspaper to prevent possible injury from broken glass.
