What do I do if my bin is missing?
A space is provided on each bin for you to place your house number on and you should make every effort to return the bin to your property after collection. Every house was also provided with bin stickers when the bins were initially delivered - if you are without these stickers please contact our customer first centre.
Missing Bins
Replacement bins will be provided for a charge of £15.00 (inc. VAT) and delivery.
Bins often reappear because someone has mistakenly taken the wrong bin after collection. This is why we usually only send out a replacement bin if the original bin still hasn't turned up after a week.
Can I collect my wheeled bin(s) from the Council? Wheeled bins are available for delivery only and residents are not permitted to collect the wheeled bins.
How can I stop my wheeled bin being stolen? Mark the bin clearly with you address and house number – address labels can be obtained free of charge from the Council. Do not place your bins out too early. Wheeled bins should be placed at the boundary of your property by 07.30 on the day of collection.
How do I order a new bin if mine is missing? Please contact Blackpool Council via Customer First on 01253 477 477 to place your order; payment must be made when ordering the new bin(s).
How do I pay for my bins? Payment is required in advance of bin requests being processed and can be made by one of the following methods: • Over the counter at the council offices. • By Switch / Debit or Credit card over the telephone. • By posting in a cheque to Customer First Contact Centre, Municipal Buildings, Corporation Street, Blackpool, FY1 1EJ. Please note that payments are non-refundable.
I am moving house; can I take my wheeled bins with me? No, wheeled bins remain the property of Blackpool Council and must remain at the property they have been issued to.
If I pay for a bin when will it be delivered? Once payment has been received we will endeavour to deliver bins within 10 working days.
What happens if I don’t pay for bins? The Council has a duty imposed under section 45 of the Environmental Protection Act (EPA) 1990 to collect household waste. Section 46 provides that the local authority can define the kind, number and size of waste receptacles. If you choose not to pay for a Council issued wheeled bin they you will have to arrange for your waste to be collected by a private contractor at a cost to yourself. Any waste placed on the highway, not in a Council issued wheeled bin will be classed as fly tipping and a fixed penalty may be issued.
Why can’t I buy my bins from somewhere else that is cheaper? The Council will not empty resident-supplied bins which do not comply with our design specifications and conforms to the required British Standard..
Why do I have to pay for my wheeled bins? The bin charging policy has been introduced to encourage residents to take responsibility for the wheeled bins provided and to reduce the very heavy demand for replacement containers and the cost to council tax payers.
Will I have to sign for delivery of the bin? You will be contacted prior to delivery so a day can be arranged. Delivery will be between 9am and 2pm on the day agreed, a signature will be required.
Please do NOT call 999 to report your missing bin as this is not an emergency.
