Household Waste - Special Collections for Large Items

Household Waste - Special Collections for Large Items Managing household waste costs a large amount of money. The estimated cost of waste management to Local Authorities (collection and disposal) is well over £1.3 billion per year. Because of the high cost, we need to charge for large items to be taken away and disposed of for you.

If you are able to move the large items yourself, you can take them to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Bristol Avenue, Bispham. The items can then be disposed of free of charge. Please remember that if you plan to move the waste using a van or trailer you will require a permit.

If a local trader offers to collect and dispose of appliances or other large items for you, please check that they intend to dispose of them lawfully.

We are able to remove large household items for you like beds, washing machines, wardrobes etc. and a small charge is made for this service.

The removal costs are:

  • up to 3 items = £ 13.12;
  • 4 -10 items = £ 26.25;
  • more than 10 items (if you can list the items)= £ 42.00.
House clearances can be quoted at an hourly rate by calling 477477. Your request will be logged and sent to the NEAT team, who will contact you with a quote.

NOTE – We Cannot Collect Cast Iron Items, Building Rubble, Tyres, Florescent Tubes or Pianos.
IMPORTANT – Fridges, TV’s and Computer monitors are classed as hazardous waste and are collected separately -

Fridges can be collected at a cost of £14.25.
TV or computer monitors can be collected at a cost of £5.00

IMPORTANT - please note that if you have workmen or a private company undertaking the work for you, they should also remove the waste generated.

You can arrange for the items to be collected by:
  • calling in person to the Customer First Centre, on Corporation Street your payment will be taken and processed and we will arrange a convenient collection date
  • by writing to the same address giving details of the items you want collecting, together with your contact details and your payment made payable to Blackpool Council
  • or simply calling us on 01253 477 477 where your payment can be processed over the phone using a debit or credit card and a collection date arranged.
Payment has to be made before the items can be collected. Please make sure that the items to be picked up are left ready outside your property.

Please ensure all items to be collected are listed when booking the collection.

Once payment has been received and verified we will arrange collection within 4 working days.
