Libraries - Lost Books What to do if books are lost or missing

Please let library staff know as soon as possible if any item is lost or missing. This will prevent large overdue charges from accumulating on your record.

If the book is not found then you will be expected to pay a compensation charge for the item – towards the purchase of a new copy. Library staff will advise further on the appropriate level of charge. This varies depending on cost and age of the item.

On occasion the book or other is found at a later date. If this happens, and you return the book to us in good condition, we can refund the compensation charge. However we advise that you keep the official receipt showing proof of payment – refunds cannot be made without this receipt.

Please note that overdue charges are paid in addition to compensation charges. Overdue charges are non-refundable.
