CLASS & SCHOOL VISITS TO LOCAL LIBRARIES
The Library welcomes class and school visits and library staff will do their best to accommodate the needs of individual classes and schools - depending upon available staffing.
Visits to the library can be organised for both pre-school and school age children.
Organisers should initially contact their choice of local library and ask to speak to the Branch Supervisor.
If they prefer they can contact the Children’s Library Services Manager direct for advice or to discuss a possible visit.
The Children’s Library Services Manager is Lynne Cowap-French – contact can be made by:
· ‘Phone on 01253 478096
· Visit to Central Library, Queen Street, Blackpool, FY1 1!PX or via
· e-mail: lynne.cowap-french@blackpool.gov.uk
Guidelines for visits.
- Wherever possible we try to accommodate your visit during ‘closed’ library sessions to avoid noise and distractions.
- We recommend a group consists of no more than 30 children
Fewer if below 7 years of age i.e. KS1 and below
- Booking your visit as far ahead as possible gives a better chance of booking the time and date you want
We recommend a minimum of 4 week’s notice for a visit
- You will receive e-mail confirmation of the visit timetable once it is agreed
- If not already school practice, we recommend children are issued with a letter addressed to their parent/carer notifying them of a forthcoming visit to the library
- It is helpful to staff if they are informed, in advance, of any ‘special needs’ required for any member of the group
- Upon arriving a group name list, including the names of accompanying, supervising staff members (with status) should be handed to the ‘greeting’ library staff member
- On certain types of visits children are permitted to borrow books during these sessions and joining cards may be distributed in advance of the visit or a child can be ’joined’ a the ‘group’ visit – the library will inform the parent/carers by letter, that the child has become a member of the library
- Teachers will be invited to complete a ‘Visit Evaluation Form’ at the end of the session
- Children often complete ‘Tell Us’ comments and suggestions forms following a class visit
