Loading and Unloading

Loading and Unloading If you need to use your vehicle for loading or unloading (such as to collect or deliver heavy or bulky goods to nearby premises), you may stop to carry out this activity:

  • In a loading bay (see adjacent time plates for maximum loading time allowed)
  • On yellow lines (provided there is not also a loading ban and the vehicle is not causing an obstruction).
Once you have finished loading/unloading the vehicle should be moved immediately. Loading/unloading exemptions do not apply if you stop to shop first, or if the vehicle is not essential for what you are picking up/delivering.

Civil Enforcement Officers will observe vehicles and may issue a parking ticket if they see no loading/unloading activity, or if they feel that it is unreasonable (for example a driver stopping to buy a newspaper).
