The Local Development Framework provides the new planning policy framework for the consideration of planning applications. It consists of a collection of planning policy documents which are being prepared to replace the current adopted Blackpool Local Plan.
Blackpool Council is preparing a number of policy and supplementary policy guidance documents.
The Council is currently working on the main strategic development plan document, the Blackpool Core Strategy, which sets out its key strategic development proposals and policies for Blackpool's development and growth to 2026.
The Blackpool Core Strategy Revised Preferred Option was approved for Public Consultation in May 2012.

Local Authorities are required to publish and update a 3 year programme for preparing and reviewing policy documents. The plans to be produced for Blackpool and their timetables are set out in the Blackpool Local Development Scheme.
The North West Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) sets out planning and transport policy for Local Authorities in the North West Region. The RSS provides a framework for determining planning applications, and for preparing Local Development Documents and Local Transport Plans.
