Louie Horrocks Recreation Ground is a valuable door-step green in south Blackpool, serving a large population in an affluent region of the town. The site is only half a mile from the famous Golden Mile and close to Blackpool's International Airport and is an important thoroughfare for shoppers travelling to and from the Highfield Road retail area. The site's core users are local residents, but we aspire to attract a wider audience to this space. In common with other urban parks, the site suffered from decline, due to progressively diminishing resources. This led to a lowering in the standard of provision. Fortunately, partnership working between the Council and the Friends Group, as well as improved standards of maintenance, led to Louie Horrocks Recreation Ground being awarded its first Green Flag Award in 2006. The site has since gone from strength to strength through the implementation of this plan.
The Parks Events Programme 2010 has now ended - however, the Ranger Service will be carrying out several walks from 21st Nov to 27th Feb 2011 to learn all about Long Eared Owls - you might even spot one of these elusive birds! See the publications section on the Ranger Service website for further details.
