Major Incident Response

All agencies will be working to the following objectives:
the Objectives of Combined Response are to:
  • save life
  • prevent escalation of the emergency
  • relieve suffering
  • safeguard the environment
  • protect property
  • facilitate criminal investigation and judicial, public, technical or other requirements
  • continue to maintain normal services at an appropriate level
  • inform the public
  • promote self help and recovery
  • restore normality as soon as possible
  • evaluate the response and identify lessons to be learned
In the immediate aftermath of a major incident, the principal concerns of Blackpool Council are to provide support to the emergency services, continue normal support and care for the local and wider community and to use resources to mitigate the effects of the emergency.

As time goes on, the emphasis will switch from response to recovery and Blackpool Council will take a leading role to facilitate the rehabilitation of the community and restoration of the environment in the return to normality.

Blackpool Council is able to provide a wide range of assistance and resources in the event of an emergency including:
  • Road closures and diversions
  • Transport
  • Reception centres for evacuees, survivors and family and friends
  • Building safety inspections
  • Plant and equipment
  • Temporary accommodation
  • Interpreters
  • Helplines
  • Psychosocial support
