How can I find out more about the Central Promenade seafront project?

The most significant element of the landscape strategy will be the remodelled seafront and expanded promenades. The seafront will feature 6 new headlands extending some 60 metres seawards to create a unique physical environment comprising a series of sculpted spaces with “Spanish Steps” leading down to the beach. The Promenade will be pedestrian focused and will introduce a series of sculpted dunes, drawing on the natural land forms found further down the coast.
This £80 million project will transform Blackpool's seafront. A multi-disciplinary design group of landscape designers, artists, sculptors, lighting designers, graphic artists and entertainers is working together to deliver the project.
The seafront project started in June 2005, working over a 4-year period in sections northwards from the Southern Gateway to the Metropole Hotel. Major civil engineering work will create a new sea wall to protect the town from coastal erosion and flooding.
