What about travel and parking arrangements in the Masterplan?
It is crucial that we improve transport and access if we are to achieve this ambitious vision of a new Blackpool. Studies have shown we simply could not accommodate all the additional visitors with present-day travel patterns. The Masterplan shows how this growth could be facilitated by:
- Improving the tramway with new trams and links to North station and Lytham St. Annes;
- Improving walking routes on the Promenade and to key attractions in the resort areas;
- Creating pedestrian priority in the town centre retail areas, with good links to parking;
- Changing bus stop and taxi rank locations to provide better access throughout the town centre;
- Improving the location and management of car parks to make their use more efficient;
- Changing the way people use the road network to access the resort and Town Centre;
- Providing a major train/tram/coach/taxi interchange at a redeveloped North Station; and
- Enhancing capacity on the town centre distributor route and the Yeadon Way corridor.
