Mayor - General Information

As the first citizen of Blackpool, the position of Mayor is a busy and varied one. As well as chairing the Council meeting, the Mayor has a ceremonial role that involves taking part in activities ranging from the opening of conferences to presiding over citizenship ceremonies for new British citizens.

In Blackpool, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are appointed to their positions each year at the Council meeting held in May. It is normally the longest serving councillor who takes up the role of Mayor.

The current Mayor is Councillor Mrs Joan Greenhalgh - for further details please use this link.
The Deputy Mayor is Councillor Allan Matthews - for further details please use this link.

Details of previous Mayors of Blackpool can be accessed by using this link.

Addressing the Mayor

The correct form of address for the current Mayor is ‘The Worshipful the Mayor of Blackpool, Councillor Mrs Joan Greenhalgh’ and where appropriate ‘The Worshipful the Mayor of Blackpool, Councillor Mrs Joan Greenhalgh and the Mayoress Mrs P Dimuantes’.

After formal introductions, speakers should refer to the Mayor as ‘Mr Mayor’.
