What sort of complaint can the Council look at?
If you can answer yes to all of the following, the Council should be able to consider your complaint.
Is the hedge:
a) Growing on land owned by someone else?
b) Is the hedge - or the portion that is causing the problems - made up of a line of 2 or more trees or shrubs?
c) Is it more than 2 metres tall?
d) Even though there may be gaps, is the hedge still capable of obstructing light or views.
e) I have spoken to my neighbour about my concerns and they have refused to do anything.
f) We have met with independent mediators to achieve a solution and failed to do so.
g) I have written to my neighbour and asked that politely to undertake some remedial work to the tree or shrub.
